AGARTALA, Feb 23 (TIWN): A total of 13 people were produced before the court on Tuesday after they were arrested following the clash broke out between the tom-tom and auto drivers at Motor stand.
Talking to TIWN correspondent, east police personnel and case IO said that they have arrested 13 people and were produced before the court on Tuesday.
Following the incident police has lodged a suo-moto case into the incident.
Reportedly, battery-propelled tom-tom drivers were attacked and chased by unruly auto-rickshaw drivers at Motorstand under east Agartala Police Station on Monday.
Being faced competition; the auto-rickshaw drivers created obstacles in tom-tom’s roadside parking and asked the tom-tom drivers to vacate the place.
Allegedly as the tom-tom driver protested and scuffle broke out between the drivers and lead to such huge violence in the city. Fresh violence between the batteries operated tom-tom vehicle driver and auto drivers turned violent in the city at Motorstand here by leading the police personnel’s to issue lathi charge.
Citing lack of parking place, the auto-rickshaw drivers resorted to attack and chase the tom-tom drivers. In a moment, a group of rickshaw pullers also joined the auto-rickshaw drivers and roughed the tom-tom drivers. This led to minor clash triggering panic among the people.
Talking to TIWN correspondent, police official said that the tom-tom drivers have protested over the harassments made by the auto rickshaw drivers.
However, when the tension triggered in the area in the broad day light police issued lathi charge to curb the situation. However, with the intervention of police the situation was brought under control although many succumbed to injuries from the lathi charge issued by the police.
Both the parties ransacked the vehicle of each other and beaten up the drivers with lathis and sharp cutting weapon. Sources said that the clash started from morning and continued for long time at Motorstand.
The accused 13 people were produced before the court after they were arrested under suo-moto case lodged by east Agartala police station.
Police is further investigating the case.
