KAILASHAHAR, Dec 10 (TIWN): Expressing resentment over the prolonged mute role played by the authority, residence of the Kumarghat demanded to take immediate initiatives to curb the collapse of Manu river bank.
Reportedly, due to heavy rain the water level of the river has increased which has lead to collapse of the river bank.
According to the locals, due to the collapse of river bank the roads and the residence of the area are in terror.
Due to delay in the renovation work of the river bank the roads are in deplorable condition, any time any kind of untoward incident can happen. Besides, the locals residing in the nearby area of the river bank are also facing harassment, as their property is also collapsing.
Reportedly, many part of Kumarghat city is under the threat of Deu River. From Shakhanshemoon the Deu River has started covered Kachanpur, Maachmara, Pacherthal, Sithangcherra and passed through Kumarghat.
It is to be mentioned here that lakhs of rupees has been spent by the Flood Control Department to stop the erosion of the river bank but till day those initiatives has failed to stop the erosion, said local.
Reportedly two villages of Chamnur are under the threat of the river but till day no initiatives has been taken to save the villages.
However, Kukithal-Agartala alternative National Highway is also under the threat of the river. It has been mentioned that anytime any kind of untoward incident can occur, if immediate initiatives has not been taken to curb the erosion.
