AGARTALA, September 4 (TIWN): Three day long orientation programme on ‘Women’s Studies as Emerging Discipline’ has been observed on Thursday at the Department of Distance Education conference hall.
During the programme the dignitaries discussed about the importance of women studies in the society and its requirement in the society.
Women's studies links gender to race, sexuality, class, and nation in order to define identity as a complex social phenomenon. Popular methodologies within the field of women's studies include standpoint theory, inter-sectionality, multiculturalism, transnational feminism, autoethnography, and reading practices associated with critical theory, post-structuralism, and queer theory.
This field research and critiques societal norm of gender, race, class, sexuality, and other social inequalities. It is closely related to the broader field of gender studies.
Talking to TIWN correspondents, Professor Cahndrika Basu Majumder, Dorector of Women Studies Centre, Tripura University said that earlier in the 70’s the Women studies only includes teaching and learning but today it includes research, publication were included.
During the programme they have discussed how to build capacity of the women studies in the Higher Education.
Besides, Directors of Women Studies of Rabindrabharati, Tejpur and Calcutta participated at the orientation programme.
The Women's Studies Centre, Tripura University is a UGC sponsored Centre under Tripura University, established in 2011 dedicated exclusively to research and advocacy on women's issues. The Women's Study Cell functioning under the auspices of Tripura University since 2006, engaged in carrying out these activities is now empowered to act as full-fledged research centre.
