AGARTALA, July 2 (TIWN): Greeting the announcement of the two National Highway connections of Tripura with the neighbouring state Assam under the ambitious programme of the Modi Government, Bharatmala, recently Revenue Minister Badal Choudhury said that the announcement had brought an end and declared success to the prolonged lead protest for the National Highways. He stated that the demand of the National Highway was a prolonged issue for the citizen of the state. For the last 10 years, several proposals had been granted at the Assembly on the same issue. The state MP’s through several forums pressurized on favour of the demand. Later, he said that the demand for the announcement of the National Highway has been continuing from the time, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of India, and the state had waited for many days to witness this memorable day.
Apart from the connecting road from Kukital to Sabroom via Kailasahar and Teliamura, Amarpur and another Khowai-Agartala corridor and announcing it as National Highway, the demands for the renovation of the National Highway also got a positive response which brought doubled the contentment for the ruling Government.
Further, Minister Choudhury expressed satisfaction saying that the center has given a positive response for providing helping hands for the construction of road in the marked areas, which the state government has arranged for the betterment of the communication system in the state.
The project cost has been estimated at Rs 1,600 crore for NH's expansion. Pedestrian strips and the drains would be build on both sides of the road connecting southernmost part of Tripura, which also connected with Chittagong sea port through a bridge over the River Feni.
However, Ministry is prompting local contracting industry by launching small packages for future contracts. Besides, Ministry would also fund the construction cost of state’s roads.
