MOHANPUR, June 29 (TIWN): In a bizarre incident, recently the local publics have caught hold of one Bangladeshi thief from Mohanpur Harinakhola and Fokiramura village area.
Reportedly, on Sunday early morning, the localites grew suspicion in their mind after seeing unknown face toddling around the village area. The villagers however called the boy for interrogation but he tried to flee away from the spot.
It is be mentioned here that, after several attempts the villagers successfully caught hold of him and after interrogation they found that he has entered the Indian land for stealing cattle from the houses adjacent to the border.
The villagers furthers said that a group of Bangladeshi thief entered to India in the late night and after carrying out there heinous crime all other members of the gang ran away but he could not manage to escape due to the strict security arrangements at the border area.
Smuggling of contraband cattle across Tripura to Bangladesh has become an everyday issue. Despite the wire fencing across the border lane Mohanpur sub-division has become the hub for transport of the prohibited goods.
Day after day the cattles are being smuggled in a huge amount resulting panic among the villagers regarding the instant smuggling of their cattle.
Locals alleged that in a broad day light the smugglers are seen exchanging arms and weapons from the national land to the land of Bangladesh through the border gate. In the midst of the wire fencing and tight security along Mohanpur Indo-Bangla border the smugglers continues the illegal transfer of the contraband items along with the domestic cattle used for farming especially the cows. The smuggler doesn’t even spare the Ox which is released in the name of God.
A large portion of the border is unfenced, porous, and mountainous making it advantageous for anti-social elements to trespass. Police said cross-border criminals not only use the unfenced areas to enter India, but also climb over the fence using ladders.
Young Bangladeshi boys are "hired" and sent to Tripura for various crimes including theft, police said. After stealing various materials and cash from remote habitations and vacant houses near the border areas, these youths deposit the materials with their employer against some daily wages.
However, the villagers handed over the thief to the police and police is further investigating the case.
