KAMALPUR, APRIL 24 (TIWN): A staff and a contingency worker of Postal department working in a rural sub post office gobbled more than 10, 00,000 of small savings money of public. The embezzlement came to light yesterday and even after 48 hours the authority could provide nothing but assurance to the depositors.
The inhabitants of Kamalpur town adjacent Noagaon village deposited their money in the rural sub post office of Noagaon. Most of the deposits were in recurring deposit scheme. Recently during the closing of Chaitra (The last month of Bengali calendar) most of the depositors found that in most of their accounts the deposit for last two to three years were missing. More seriously many pass books of account holders were also missing. When they contacted the Kamalpur Post Office, the authority informed them about the same story. The villagers blamed the rural sub post office in charge Anita Dey and contingency worker Samir Bhattacharjee for the same. However, the Post Master of Kamalpur Post Office only gave assurance of quick remedy to the irked depositors.
