AGARTALA, Feb 26 (TIWN): The TSF staged a protest in Agartala on Thursday raising their demand for implementing the Roman script for Kokborok language. They burnt Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha’s photo — who has consistently refused to allow Roman script for Kokborok language, calling it a foreign script.
The TSF cited Dimasa and Mizo languages as being written in the Roman scripts. They asked, “If those languages can be written in Roman script, why not Kokborok?”
“We will not allow any imposition on our indigenous language. It’s our choice what script we will choose.”
Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remark not to be interested in using “foreign script” for any Indian language, a TSF leader said, “His speech was political, because the central government’s language department official made it clear that there is no restriction in the constitution for the use of Roman script.”
