
Agartala/Aizawl, Sept 2 (TIWN) Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) Monday organised a protest rally in Tripura against the fuel price hike and demanded immediate rollback.
The oil companies Sunday announced a hike in petrol prices by Rs 2.35 and diesel price by 50 paise a litre.
Demanding immediate rollback, Mitali Bhattacharjee, a central committee leader of the DYFI said, "The union government has hiked the petrol price many times. With the increase in fuel prices, the cost of all essentials and goods would automatically go up. It would further burdened the common people.”
She added that the people already distressed under the heavy price-rise of essentials and the fuel price hike would further increase the burden on the common men.
She suggested that the UPA government can reduce customs and excise duty to balance the marginal price hike of petroleum products in the international market.
