AGARTALA, Aug 14 (TIWN): Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, on Thursday, during India’s partition honors day observation at MBB college, blamed the then political leaders in 1940s for India’s partition that divided the country into two nations. The partition honors day observation was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2021 and is now observed nationwide, remembering how India and Pakistan were divided, which came as a shock to the people. “Partition is an example of religious division that tells us even today, why we all should remain united, but it was not only religious division, although apparently it seems that it was so. The partition reason was deep-rooted politically, because there was a competition of who would become the Prime Minister,” said CM.
“Even though it happened suddenly, it jolted the people of India, but it did not happen overnight. The first Hindu-Muslim riot happened in 1881, and then the British used the sentiment to rule, and when leaving, they (British) did it to keep the division between religions alive,” CM added.
“India’s partition is a lesson on why Hindus and Muslims should remain united in this country,” said the chief minister.
