Bishramganj, July 12 (TIWN) : A daring robbery took place at the Bishramganj Primary Health Centre, where thieves broke into the OST (Opioid Substitution Therapy) center and stole valuable medicines, including injection syringes, used to treat addicts.
The incident occurred on Friday night, and the hospital authorities filed a complaint with the Bishramganj police station on Saturday.
The stolen medicines are crucial for treating drug addiction, and the hospital is now facing a shortage. The thieves perhaps targeted the hospital due to the unavailability of syringes in the market, which has been restricted by the health department.
The locals are living in fear, as the addicted youths are resorting to theft to fund their addiction, targeting even hospitals, which are meant to be safe spaces for patients.
The hospital authorities have demanded immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future. Dr. Pujar Deb, a doctor at the OPD center, said that the hospital is experiencing frequent thefts, with thieves targeting patients' and doctors' mobile phones. The hospital lacks night guards, making it vulnerable to such incidents.
