Agartala, July 11(TIWN): A bituminous plant operating illegally behind the Unakoti district hospital in Bhagaban Nagar is emitting toxic fumes, affecting doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, and their children. Despite the Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) ordering the plant to shut down on July 1, it continues to operate with impunity, allegedly due to the owner's close ties with the ruling party.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Rohan Pal expressed concern, stating that even children are at risk of developing cancer due to the toxic fumes. "We can't even keep our doors and windows closed to escape the pollution. No one seems to have the courage to take action," he said.
A nurse at the hospital complained, "We can't even let our children play outside in the evening due to the thick black smoke that covers the sky." The healthcare workers are demanding action, questioning how the plant can continue to operate despite violating pollution norms and defying the TSPCB's orders.
The incident has raised questions about the administration's priorities and whether it is succumbing to pressure from influential individuals. As the situation continues to deteriorate, the community is demanding answers and action to protect the health and well-being of those working in the hospital.
