AGARTALA, July 10 (TIWN): A petition was filed in the Tripura High Court to issue notice to the Tripura Government regarding the infrastructure set up and implementation of central guidelines on the illegal immigrants’ detention process. The High Court said the petitioners should have waited longer, as the Central Government had issued a notification only a few days ago. A Supreme Court lawyer was also present on behalf of the petitioners. Talking to the media, the advocates whose petition was dismissed said they wanted a detention center set up in Tripura like Assam and a court to hear the issues related to illegal migrants and following other guidelines ---- but the petition was dismissed.
The petition was filed amid massive detention and deportation, breaking all previous records under incumbent chief minister Dr. Manik Saha.
Recently, Tripura CM Dr. Saha in an interview said, “Earlier it was the time for intrusion episodes, but now their deportation episode has started.”
Tripura is now seeing a record number of deportations, seizure of drugs, and a drastic reduction in crime rates 30% in the last two years.
