Agartala, February 5 (TIWN): Showing thumb to the police personnel and other security forces, a strong racket of making fake foreign liquor is freely carrying out the extensive illegal business across the North Tripura district for over past few months.
According to the local sources, while the concerned police administration remained tight-lipped over the issue with ‘yawning siesta’, the strong racket reportedly prepares fake foreign liquors in the district specially in Panisagar and Jalebasha and smuggles them to Assam and Mizoram along with the different parts of Tripura by getting a large-amount profit.
The sources further alleged that though, the police personnel along with Border Security Force (BSF) carried out several anti-liquor drives in the district earlier to combat the issue but ahead of alluring bribes, the efforts remained stopped for over past few months.
As a result, the racket maintains to supply huge fake foreign liquors across the state along with Mizoram and Assam without any disruption, the sources added. Besides, a section of local people is engaged in smuggling in fake currencies through Indo-Bangla international border over the district, the sources said.
A senior police officer from North Tripura district said, “After the rising of the barbed wire fencing in the entire border with Bangladesh, a section earlier involved in smuggling of goods and cattle is now turning towards supplying fake notes and other in small size which can be easily smuggled despite of the fence.”
“Now the smugglers have framed new strategy of smuggling. They are now reportedly engaged in making fake foreign liquors and supplying them to other north eastern states”, he said.
But despite of all efforts police and border guards are keeping a strong surveillance and the rate of successful operations of the security forces are high, he added.
