AGARTALA, Feb 12 (TIWN): Road and Railway blockades have paralyzed public movement centering prohibition of Roman script for Kokborok language exams under Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE).
In Dharmanagar also, protests were held supporting the demand for Roman script for Kokborok language exams.
A leader of Tipra Motha Jaitung Halam said, “We live in harmony and this protest has never against any community. We are protesting for our community’s demands.”
The issue erupted after TBSE declared that Roman script could not be used for Kokborok language anymore. Till now both Roman and Bangla were allowed whereas the sudden order has generated resentment and also hurdles for many students who are from English medium backgrounds.
TBSE President however has put an excuse of sending a request to CBSE to allow Roman script for Kokborok and the request is yet pending.
On contrary, opposition leader Animesh Debbarma said, there is no connection between TBSE and CBSE. So TBSE’s attempt to stretch CBSE’s name for not permitting Kokborok script is bizarre.
