AGARTALA, Feb 12 (TIWN): Followed by whole day strike that had paralyzed road and railway services in Tripura, Tripura Govt finally agreed to the demand of the Tiprasa students that Roman script should be allowed for Kokborok language uses under Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE).

“As the spokesperson of the cabinet, I just want to the convey the message of the cabinet. Strike is not a healthy thing to do. It creates problems for the common men. It has been seen that below 2% students are using the Roman script for Kokborok language and that created the issue. However, seeing the situation, we have withdrawn the decision and Roman script will be allowed to be used as Kokborok language exams along with Bengali script,” said ICAT Minister Sushanta Chowdhury.

He also said, it will be implemented for TBSE but he has control over CBSE’s matters.

The Minister has appealed the protesters to withdraw the strike and to normalize the transport system.

The strike for indefinite period was called after TBSE declared that Roman script can not be used for Kokborok language anymore.

TBSE President however has put an excuse of sending a request to CBSE to allow Roman script for Kokborok and the request is yet pending.

Reacting to TBSE President’s claim that due to CBSE not permitting TBSE to allow Roman script for Kokborok language exams, leader of the opposition Animesh Debbarma said, this claim is baseless and false. He accused TBSE President of making an irrelevant excuse for his decision.

“Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) is an autonomous body, how can any other board influence its decisions?” asked Animesh Debbarma.
