AGARTALA, March 11 (TIWN): In protest against the attack on Pradesh Congress President MLA Birjit Sinha and CPI(M) State Committee Secretary Jitendra Choudhary and demanding Z category security for these two leaders, a joint initiative of the Left-Congress held a protest rally in Kailasahar town on Saturday.
A memorandum was given to the Director General of State Police regarding Kailasahar police station.
The protest march was led by Unakoti District Congress President Md. Badruzzaman, Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rudrendu Bhattacharya, Congress leader Chandrasekhar Sinha, CPIM Unakoti District Committee Secretary Krishnendu Chowdhury, CPIM Kailasahar sub-committee secretary Bishwarup Goswami, CPI(M) leader Kanti Lal Dev and many others. The Congress party workers started the protest rally from the Congress Bhawan, as soon as they came in front of the CPIM office, the CPI(M) party workers joined the protest rally, the protest rally roamed the various streets of the city and protested in front of the Kailasahar police station.
A six-member delegation from the two parties handed over a memorandum to the Kailashahar sub-divisional police officer and the OC of the Kailashahar PS from the protest rally. After giving the memorandum, District Congress President Md. Badruzzaman on behalf of the Left Congress, said that on March 9 Thursday night, opposition party workers were beaten up and houses were set on fire.
The attack on CPIM-Congress was organized after a parliamentary team led by Birjit Sinha and Jitendra Chowdhury went to the spot on Friday to inquire about the people affected by the incident. Md. Badruzzaman said that this movement is in protest and to demand Z category security for these two leaders, Birjit Sinha and Jitendra Chowdhury.
