AGARTALA, Dec 8 (TIWN): Belonia District and session court ordered an old man to undergo rigorous imprisonment for20 years for raping a 9-year-old minor. The court gave this verdict on Wednesday as an old man named Manoranjan Das (76) was found guilty after taking the testimony of 21 witnesses.

Reportedly, on March 3, 2021, a case of rape was filed against accused Manoranjan Das at Rajnagar PR Bari PS of Rajnagar block under Belonia subdivision on behalf of the victim's family. At that time Rajnagar PR Bari police station registered a case under section 376 (A) (B) and 6 of pocso act, investigating officer Pankaj Biswas after investigation filed a charge sheet of the case under section 376 (A) (B) 6 and 10 of pocso act in the court. In this section, the court today convicted the accused old man Manoranjan and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.  The court also announced a fine of Rs 10,000 and two months of imprisonment.

Manoranjan Das is a resident of Krishnapur area of Niharnagar under Belonia Rajnagar Block. The home of the raped minor is also in the same place.

It is known that the old woman named Manoranjan Das took the 9 year old minor to his house when no one was at home and taking the opportunity the accused raped her in March 2021.
