AGARTALA, July 4 (TIWN): Tripura former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday demanded the arrest of miscreants who held a severe attack on a senior journalist Tapas Das. Tapas Das was attacked in Indranagar area in Agartala by miscreants, and now admitted to GB hospital in critcial condition. Das is an employee in Syandan Patrika, a local Bengali daily newspaper. After meeting the injured journalist at GB hospital, Manik Sarkar condemned the incident. Referring to the incident, Sarkar said, “Attacks on journalists have increased a lot in Tripura since the BJP Govt assumed the charge. The attack started from Daily Desher Katha newspaper where hawkers were attacked first and then the newspaper was attempted to be seized and now physical violence on journalists have gone at an extreme stage”.
Manik Sarkar demanded the miscreants must be arrested immediately.
“Recently in our meeting with DGP and Governor we raised the law and order issues before both of them and also discussed in detail how the journalists are regularly facing threats. The injured journalist Tapas Das was recently threatened by miscreants but he did not assume that he will face this consequence. I pray for the injured journalist's speedy recovery”, said Manik Sarkar.
