AGARTALA, December 16 (TIWN): Former Governor of Tripura Sultan Singh passes away. Taking to TIWN here this evening, Chief Secretary G. Kameswara Rao said the state government declared holiday on December 17.
It is to be mentioned here that former Governor of Tripura Sultan Singh took charge of the state on 12 July 1989 and left on 11 February 1990.
After Tripura became a full-fledged state in January 1972, B.K. Nehru became the first governor. L.P. Singh succeeded him in September 1973. S.M.H. Burney then replaced him in June 1984. Gen. (retired) K.V. Krishnarao, Sultan Singh, K.V. Raghunath Reddy, Ramesh Bhandari, professor (retired) Siddheshwar Prasad, Lt Gen. (retired) Krishna Mohan Seth, Dinesh Nandan Sahay, Kamala Beniwal and D.Y.Patil followed Burney. Among the governors, Kamala Beniwal had the briefest tenure of only 40 days between October 16, 2009, and November 26, 2009.
