BELONIA, Dec 24 (TIWN): Police's lathicharge was reported in CPI-M's student wing protest at Belonia, South Tripura on Thursday. The rally was led by CPI-M Deputy Opposition leader Badal Choudhury and other top leaders. As per the footage, the rally was massive as huge numbers of students, youths, women had joined it. At a spot, police stopped the agitators asking them not to go further but the CPI-M workers were proceeding peacefully. On that time, a police officer all of a sudden started lathi-charge and other police officials on duty followed the same. Many activists, including girls, women have received injuries in this incident. After the incident, the CPI-M activists further blocked road on that very spot in voice against police's mistreatment to the opposition activists. The senior leaders of the party have condemned the incident. The senior leaders were seen developed arguments with the police officer who started lathicharge in that peaceful protest.
Misuse of Police's lathi-charge rights are in rise under the BJP Govt on the opposition rallies. However, the same police are seen inactive when ruling party workers violate laws.
