AGARTALA, Sep 22 (TIWN): Tripura Government's negligence regarding Bru Settlement resulted continuous tension in Kanchanpur. On Monday evening the 'Joint Movement Committee' called for 12 hours strike on next day. Through out the whole day of strike hours, Kanchanpur remained paralysed. The agitators said that they wanted to give a message to the state government that no person will be allowed to settle in their area.
Earlier in January of this year both the Mizoram and Tripura Govt settled with a deal that more than 500 Bru families will be given permanent residence in Tripura's Kanchanpur. They also have decided the places without consulting with the local people of that area.
This erupted mass resentment among the locals. The locals said that they would not allow anyone to settle in their locality. They have staged many protest curriculums in earlier days also. However, failed to grab govt's attention for permanent solution.
On other side, the Burs also showed their resentment in settling in the places that the govt alloted for them. Both this situation damaged the peace of hills.
In this strike the Joint Movement Committee showed mass protest against the Bru settlement. They said that for the Bru families they had to leave 7 villages in earlier days. They had been deprived since very long and the govt is not showing any interest to help them out. They also said that today's strike was a message to the govt that they should withdraw their decision regarding Bru settlement as early as possible.
