AGARTALA, April 3 (TIWN): CPI-M sitting MP Sankar Prasad Dutta while addressing at Khumulwng in a public gathering said that MGNREGA was a creation of UPA Govt under Leftist MPs pressure in 2004.

“BJP and IPFT both need to be defeated in this election and also Congress which pushed the indigenous people far from development after Left Government came in power in Tripura started various developmental projects for the indigenous people”, Sankar Prasad Dutta said.

“From various constituencies, various times MPs have represented the Leftists in the parliament. In 2004 61 MPs went to the Parliament. Congress did not start MGNREGA but it was Leftists which started movement for MGNREGA”, added Dutta.

“But this MGNREGA on the verge of destruction since 2014 after Modi Govt came in power. From the Parliament, at the very beginning BJP MPs started to speak against MGNREGA saying this MGNREGA is destroying rural works, development and economy. Today from 90% MGNREGA works it has downed at 33% under Tripura BJP and IPFT Govt”, he said.

The MP further criticized the Govt for downing rural economy, poverty and hunger which gripped the state.
