AGARTALA, Feb 4 (TIWN): Chakma Students body ‘Tripura Chakma Students Association’ (TCSA) has condemned news publication against Chakma Community which claimed that 700 Chakma families came from Arunchal Pradesh, destroying Tripura’s beauty.
Addressing media, TCSA Vice President Isaac Chakma leaders said, “In leading newspapers and online media a fake propaganda was made centering ‘patta’ issue of the Chakma community at Kanchanpur. It was said by 3 media houses that from Arunachal Pradesh 700 Chakma families came and now destroying Tripura’s beauty. We have inquired the matter but found that the reports were fake”.
“It was claimed that our respected leaders Anirudhha Chakma, Shyamal Chakma are importing Chakma people from Arunchal Pradesh and instigating a disharmony. It’s incorrect. We urge the newspaper owners not to make such fake news, which can lead into riots between our own people”, he said.
They also said, the Chakma people were given ‘patta’ by the SDM. However, there is an issue going on between locals of Shantipur village and Kanchanpur village regarding the ‘patta’.
“We urge the Govt to do proper investigation in this matter and if any outsider is in Tripura then to identify them. We don’t want Tripura’s beauty to be destroyed”, the Chakma students said.
