Agartala, September 23(TIWN): The state government adopted a series of steps to ensure zero power-cut in the coming Durga Puja season this year, power minister Manik Dey said here on Monday.
Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here today, the minister said that the state is expected to have an average power requirement of 296 MW during the four days of Durga Puja this year. The state registered average power demand of 255 MW last year, he said.
A team of the BHEL, that has been working to repair the ninth unit at Rukhia thermal power plant since the last few weeka, is expected to complete work by September 26.
"We are getting 42 MW from Baramura plant, 42 MW from Rukhia plant, 7 MW from Gumti hydel project, 90 MW from Palatana project, 30 MW through power sharing agreement from Meghalaya, 25 MW from Mizoram and 60 MW is expected to come from the central sector", the power minister stated.
Tripura usually gets additional allocation of power from different NE states during the Durga Puja. The state supplies additional supplies to Mizoram and Meghalaya during Christmas.
Power Minister Dey said that the state is expected to remain power-cut free from September 29 till the end of Laxmi Puja.
All power department and TSECL employees were asked to refrain from taking leave from office before and during the Durga Puja.
