AGARTALA, Sep 10 (TIWN): Nationwide high petrol, diesel prices have been fueling resentment among the common men and Congress has alleged at least 40 % fuel price has been increased under the Modi Govt since 2014. As a pat of nationwide strike, Tripura Congress has also called for 12 hours strike, received huge responses from public giving a major jolt to the BJP led state govt as even after govt's strict warning public supported Bharat Bandh.
The vehicle drivers regardless BJP backed or opposition backed have mass rejected to drive today and opposed the fuel price hike, as Tripura BJP Govt has increased taxes, cess over fuel two times in last 6 months.
Congress activists have started picketing since the morning to lead a successful strike, whereas agitations are continuing in front of the Congress headquarter. The activists have burnt tires, raised slogans against Modi Govt's Jumla-raj saying, 'Modi hatao, Bharat bachao'.
This is the first strike of the oppositions since the massive poll victory of BJP. Tight securities have been imposed across the state to avoid any unwanted incidents.
Whereas the strike appeal was under doubt but with a bit of surprise, common people have given huge responses to the Strike, fueling tension among the BJP leaders ahead of Panchayat-bi election.
Petrol prices in Agartala have been turning more volatile, as prices of crude oil have been showing a firm trend on Monday petrol price was recorded with 78.91 rupees, whereas diesel price is 72.21 rupees.
However, till 9.30 am no serious unwanted incident was reported in state, whereas heavy security in the West Dist was imposed by police.
The 12 hours strike is being observed by opposition Congress across the State along with the nation, received huge response.Transport was paralyzed, maximum private institutions remained close on Monday supporting the strike.
