AGARTALA, Sep 8 (TIWN): Education Minister Ratan lal Nath on the occasion of 'International Literacy Day' said, modern education has changed a lot with global outlook.
"Earlier Education meant anyhow to get job, but the perspective is now changed. Students have to know whole world and Education should be lifetime, not one-time by ended with getting a job", Nath said.
"Today's Education is global in nature and if a student studies in Tripura s/he will be able to compete with the whole world. They (students) will be able to get job in America, Germany, not only in India", Ratan Lal Nath said.
Nath also debated with AMC Mayor Prafullajit Sinha who said, the present must focus to maintain the literacy rate of Tripura which tops highest with 97 % in whole India. Nath said, "I am confused with the term literacy, as whether only to can sign one's name can make him a literate person or not. A person must know reading and must say 2 + 3 = how much ?"
Nath was addressing in International Literacy Day programme observed at Rabindra Bhawan like every year.
8 September was declared International Literacy Day by UNESCO on 26 October 1966 at 14th session of UNESCO's General conference. It was celebrated for the first time in 1967.
