Agartala, September 16 (TIWN): Malaria outbreak continued to escalate with one more reported from the parasite attack at Sabroom in South Tripura district.
A highly placed source in the Department of Health and Family Welfare today said that Amit Tripura (6 yrs), son of Rohindra Tripura from Baishnabpur of Sabroom sub-division died late evening on Monday. Amit was reportedly admitted at the Sabroom sub-divisional hospital on the previous day where he died in critical condition.
An official communiqué from the health department said later this evening that a total of 91 people have died of malaria outbreak since its initial effects surfaced in May this year. Over 53 thousand people were recorded to have been afflicted by the disease till date since the outbreak.
Sixty-six patients were freshly infected with malaria on Tuesday while 33 were admitted in different public hospital and healthcare centers.
