Agartala, Sep 14 (TIWN): It is mandatory to test the CNG run vehicles in the state on a regular basis as safety measure to evade combustion, said lawyer Puruswottam Roy Barman, Secretary, Tripura Human Rights Organization (THRO).
Previously, it was compulsory to test the CNG cylinders of vehicles every after 5 years, as per the order of Central Government. At present, the period was reduced to 3 years. It is worthy to mention here that there is no arrangement for testing the CNG cylinders in the state yet. Furthermore, it is suspected whether the cylinders in the vehicles are approved safe or not.
The Oil and Natural Gas Company (ONGC), too, is acknowledged of the issue. Also, it is a matter of concern whether the CNG stations were set up with precautionary measures. The CNG Filling Station at Agartala TRTC complex is located in a densely populated area. Moreover, the CNG filling works are being done by unprofessional staffs that may result in any disaster any time.
At the time, when accidents are frequent in the state, the CNG run vehicles without safety measures has raised a question over the safety of passengers. Though, the THRO issued a letter regarding the issue to the Department of Transport, the department has not taken any initiative yet. According to the THRO, government is playing with fire.
