AGARTALA, September 12 (TIWN): Police arrested two hardcore anti-social elements from Vidhyasagar area near Hindi School with one pistol and five live bullets setting an alarm bell ahead of Durga puja.

They were identified as Uttam Debnath and Goutam Debnath.

Based on specific information, Dy SP (Central) Rajendrajit Dutta appeared at Vidhyasagar near Hindi School and cordoned off the residence of Uttam Debnath around 3 am.

During search, police recovered one pistol with five rounds which were concealed inside the dwelling hut of the house.

“We have booked Uttam and his younger brother possessing illegal fire arms, illegal assemble and preparation of dacoity. Today, they were forwarded before the court seeking police remand for further interrogation”, said the Dy, SP (Central).

Of the total five recovered bullets, two are for SLR’s and remaining three for 9 MM revolver. “We guess they might have 9 MM revolver but police did not find it during the first round of search”, he said.

“We have come to know four/ five more anti-social elements who are planning to create trouble in the run up to Durga puja. Police are on the move to arrest them immediately”, he said.

Police have already geared up to ensure peaceful celebrations of Durga puja. “We had have meeting with different puja organizers and sought their cooperation to ensure peace during the festival season”, he added.
