AGARTALA, September 11 (TIWN): The Indo-Bangla international border was sealed from Thursday as a part of the standard security measure ahead of the by-election at 39 Manu assembly constituency. CRPF and other central para-military forces are holding foot-patrols and mobile-patrols in the Manu assembly constituency area, Border Security Forces (BSF) jawans were set on high alert, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal said.
Speaking to reporters here this evening, the CEO said that poll campaigning for the by-election officially ended today at 5 PM. No untoward incident was known till latest reports came in, he said.
The official earlier said that 38,08,043 voters would exercise their adult franchise rights in the by-poll of Manu Assembly constituency scheduled to be held on September 13.
18,09,029 female voters would be exercising their franchise rights in the by-election, he added
Polling is slated to start in 46 polling stations in 38 different locations under the constituency from 7 AM on September 13. Polling would continue till 5 PM on the day.
230 polling personnel and 38 micro-observers were appointed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct the by-election. Moreover, one expenditure observer accompanied by one general observer would supervise the entire by-poll, said the official.
CPI (M) fielded Prabhat Chowdhury for the by-poll against Mailafru Mog, candidate from Congress.
Nirmal Kumar Tripura and Angthai Mog would contest the election as BJP and Trinamool candidates.
The Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) and the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) also staged their candidates in this by-poll.
