AGARTALA, September 8 (TIWN): Our goal is to achieve 100 percent literacy and we would attain that very soon, said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar at a function to mark the International Literacy Day-2014 at Nazrul Kalashetra here this afternoon.
He further said that the percentage of literacy stands at 95.16% as on January 01. Up to 2011 it was 87% and on 09.2013 there was a boost in literacy margin with 95.16%, leaving Kerala in back side and Tripura reached at the top most position from the side of literacy mission in all over the country.
As per to guideline if the literacy rate of any state reaches to 80% then the state would be declared as cent percent literate state, Manik added. He thanked state literacy mission and everyone involved in the strenuous campaign that brought glory to the state. The whole credit goes to teachers those who helped the state government to make the Tripura top most literate state in the country, he added.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the programme by lighting lamp. Information and Cultural Affairs minister Bhanu Lal Saha, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dr. Prafullajit Sinha and other officials were also present in the function.
