AGARTALA, September 5 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today paid tributes to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on the occasion of 53rd Teachers' Day 2014, saying the late President still remains an inspiration for the entire country at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan.
Speaking in the occasion Manik Sarkar said that we salute all teachers, who tirelessly light the lamp of knowledge. Teachers' Day is celebrated as a tribute to the valuable contribution made by teachers to the society by imparting knowledge and enlightening and shaping the career of students.
Celebration of Teachers' Day is fairly popular in many countries across the world and is even acknowledged by UNESCO. For students, Teachers' Day is an occasion to pay reverence and gratitude to teachers for their selfless effort in shaping their career and enriching the education system in the process, he added.
He further said that Teachers' Day celebrates the role teachers play in providing quality education at all levels. This enables children and adults of all ages to learn to take part in and contribute to their local community and global society.
During the occasion one teacher namely Manoj Kanti Sarkar was awarded with Pandit Vidyasagar Samman 2014 and six other teachers namely Chandra Mohan Debnath, Amal Chatterjee, Pramod Chandra Debnath, Indrajit Modak, Manik Ganguly and Amrit Kumar Bhattacharjee was awarded with teachers award 2014.
Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty, SW and SE department Minister Bijita Nath, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, Chief Secretary G.K.Rao and Principal Secretary of school education department Dr. K. Rajeswara Rao were present in the occasion.
