AGARTALA, August 29 (TIWN): The state government has spent Rs. 12,411,84 till date on legal proceedings against the Tripura High Court order to cancel jobs of 10,323 Graduate, Post Graduate and Under Graduate Teachers, School Education minister Tapan Chakraborty said today.
Replying a question moved by members from the opposition benches, minister for school education Tapan Chakraborty today stated in the ongoing monsoon session of the state legislative assembly that the state government has already spent Rs. 7 lakh 15 thousand for filing the Special Leave Petition (SLP) at the Supreme Court against the High Court order.
The minister’s written admission in the House further informed that Rs. 5 lakh 22 thousand 334 was spent on conveyance charges of officials travelling to Delhi and back in connection. An additional amount of Rs. 3,850 was spent for lodging charges of officials during their stay at Delhi.
A host of government officials including Law Secretary Data Mohan Jamatia, Advocate General Bijan Chandra Das and Secretary of School Education PK Chakraborty were camping at New Delhi for admission of special leave petition in the Supreme Court in May.
The team came back empty handed after counsel consulted for filing the SLP advised the officials to make certain changes in the text. The SLP was filed later on June 10 this year.
A Division Bench of the High Court of Tripura comprising Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice SC Das ordered the cancellation of services of the teachers in Undergraduate, Graduate and Postgraduate categories. The state’s ruling Left government inducted 1,100 postgraduate, 4,617 graduate and 4,606 under-graduate teachers in three phases since March 2010.
