Beijing, Feb 18 (TIWN / IANS) Chinese stocks opened higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.65 per cent to open at 2,699.82 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index opened 0.77 per cent higher at 8,187.89 points, Xinhua news agency reported.
Meanwhile, the central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, weakened 36.00 basis points to 6.7659 against the US dollar on Monday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System.
In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 per cent from the central parity rate each trading day.
The central parity rate of the yuan against the US dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
