Dhaka, Aug 9 (TIWN): A gathering of Awami League leaders and supporters in Gopalganj district pledged to facilitate the return of Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh.
The oath-taking ceremony took place at the mausoleum of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara on Wednesday at 12pm, led by district Awami League President Mahbub Ali Khan. The participants collectively declared their commitment to ensuring Sheikh Hasina's return to Bangladesh.
Prominent speakers included District Awami League General Secretary GM Sahabuddin Azam and Tungipara Municipal Awami League President Sheikh Saiful Islam.
Before the ceremony, a procession of Awami League leaders and supporters arrived in Tungipara from Gopalganj, paying floral tributes at Bangabandhu's mausoleum and observing a moment of silence. A Quran recitation and special prayer followed, honoring the memories of Bangabandhu and those who lost their lives on August 15, 1975.
GM Sahabuddin Azam emphasized the importance of continued political action, urging participants to persist in their protests until Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana return to Bangladesh. He encouraged them to remain undeterred, even in the face of potential arrests. District Awami League Office Secretary Ilyas Haque noted that since Sheikh Hasina's resignation as prime minister on Monday, the party has been actively mobilizing support in Gopalganj without facing pressure from higher authorities to desist from their activities."
