AGARTALA, Jan 19 (TIWN): Reacting on the fake voters list issue, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikanti said that based on a particular issue or a complain made against a particular person or by a particular person election commission can’t take action.
“The second issue is about the free and fair election is that we are putting all the polling personnel (Govt Employees) on data base. Many polling personnel are sent in various places. Also we have general observers, micro observers. So there are various procedures and mechanisms to ensure a free and fair election”, said CEO.
Noteworthy, assembly elections in Tripura will be conducted on February 18, while people in Meghalaya and Nagaland will be voting on February 27. Counting of votes in all the three states in the north-east is on March 3.
"The code of conduct has come into effect from today in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura ahead of the assembly elections in these three states", Chief Election Commissioner AK Jyoti told reporters. All the three states have 60 seats each in their assembly.
Yesterday, the Deputy Election commissioner Sudeep Jain visited here in Tripura. At Santibazar a meeting was held led by the commissioner. From SP Gomati, SP South to DM all remained present during the meeting.
At DM Office also there was a meeting among polling personnel and the EC.
After reaching at Agartala he visited Umakanta School and checked VVPAT machines and other arrangements. Tripura Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sriram Taranikanti was also accompanying him.
