AGARTALA, August 22 (TIWN): The city sported a festive look on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi. Colourful flowers, torans and decorative items flooded local markets that were chock-a-block all through Friday with enthusiastic denizens pouring in large numbers. Organizers at the Ganesh pandals were seen making last-minute preparations, paying special attention to security arrangements this time around. An estimated 2,000 Ganesh Deities are likely to dot various corners of Tripura this year.
The festivities, which begin on August 29th, started off with citizens having already settled into a holiday mood. Pandals in parts of the city were given final preparations like lighting, and decorations. "Everything is in order at most places. While we are looking forward to it, we just hope rain does not make things difficult," said a Ganesh Puja organizer.
Big and small Ganesha idols were being taken to various pandals, to be unveiled on August 29th morning for pujas. Markets were packed to capacity with people buying groceries and sweetmeats for the festival.
