AGARTALA / SABROOM/ DHARMANAGAR / SONAMURA, Dec 11 (TIWN): The unseasonal and sudden rain in Northeast state Tripura has caused massive crop damages, leading massive losses the farmers here. Vegetable cultivator are undergoing tremendous losses throughout the state following the 2 days of unexpected, incessant raining. Tomato, cabbage, coriander fields have been totally collapsed, now selling at low prices at the market due to the rotting like conditions of them. But the vegetable prices likely to shoot up within 2 days and the state markets which just had come over from vegetable-shortages now again to be heated with vegetable crisis fueled by high prices.
In this condition consumers are already facing hard times as already vegetable prices had been reeling under high-prices since 2 / 3 months following a flood in September month.
The rains have badly affected vegetables’ production and disrupted supply lines in various places, when already fresh vegetables are in short supply after following 2 last floods.
Flooding throughout the country during August September has seen root rot wipe out entire crops, sending grocery prices skyrocketing and now this shocking, unexpected rain has caused more price-hikes, leading mass suffering for the consumers.
TIWN correspondents in the morning have reported in Agartala Office from Sonamura, Sabroom, Dharmanagar about the damaging condition of all the vegetable fields in each subdivisions.
