AGARTALA, Aug 14 (TIWN): On the wake of 71st Independence day, BSF has increased border patrolling at Indo-Bangla borders amid flood and natural disturbances. Border Security Force (BSF) have deployed additional forces to step up vigil in the state bordering with neighbouring Bangladesh just after the days ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, the Union home ministry has issued a massive security alert to all states of possible terror attacks, with special focus on border states. The BSF official said that strength of security forces was augmented in vital areas of the state especially in the areas where the barbed wire fencings are yet to be constructed. Patrolling along the Assam-Agartala national highway and interior places was being intensified as a precautionary measure. Moreover,the tension had increased as on Sunday, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested a Tripura militant in Assam who planned to incite violence ahead of Independence Day. Over 600 cartridges were recovered from the extremist.
Police had recovered a large quantity of ammunition from him During a routine checking, the GRP personnel arrested the militant identified as Naresh Chakma, 34, at Badarpur railway junction on Saturday.
Talking to SP West Abhijit Saptashi regarding the security arrangement he said, "There is initially no threat but amid the flood situation across the state, the checking in public places are going on tightly. A huge number of security to be provided all over the West Dist to mark a safe celebration day". "We have also requested the BSF to increase patrolling on border areas to stop all means of threat entering the state", Saparshi said.
"On 14th August there will be checking, dog-squad and on 15th August a huge number of troops to safeguard the Dist". There will be various programmes in Tripura on 15th August both by the state govt and by private institutions. According to program schedule the day would dawn with special tributes to the freedom fighters for the integrity, solidarity and development of India. Security was thus tightened on Thursday in the restive north-east and other areas where NE based terrorists are allegedly active ahead of India’s Independence Day.
More than 100,000 army, police and paramilitary troops were deployed in the north-eastern states to foil any attack by separatists.
