AGARTALA, August 5, (TIWN): Casual and slip workers of Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) and Gobind Ballav Pant (GBP) Hospital, on Tuesday gheraoed the Medical Superintendent Dr B S Chaudhary demanding regularisation of their service in the hospital.
They alleged after a several rounds of deputation with health minister Tapan Chakraborty and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar since 2011 followed by mass demonstration on street and hunger strike 33 slip workers got absorbed in the service on daily rate basis.
As many as 123 slip workers are there in AGMC and about 200 are engaged in different hospitals of the state. They demanded service assurance and other service benefit like other government employees. The workers had issued a week ultimatum to the authority and today they met again.
However, Dr Chaudhury asserted them the government is sympathetic to their demand and taking time to sort out the issue.
