AGARTALA, July 30 (TIWN): The eviction threat prompted the inhabitants of Bangsul village under North Tripura district on Tuesday to agitate against the move of setting up of proposed fertilizer factory with the natural gas from Khubal in Panisagar sub-division. They villagers alleged, if the factory is set up they have to leave the place, have been residing for generations.
Besides, the factory will pollute the surrounding environment that caused problem for the villagers and it will be difficult to live within even 5 kms of the plant, they apprehended. Allegedly, District Magistrate had earlier assured them for public consultation over the environment and livelihood impact of the proposed project but so far nothing.
Meantime, it has noticed that the investors started building house without any consultation with the villagers. The villagers mostly tribal alleged that the location identified for the factory is not suitable for fertilizer production because there is not enough amount of water, which is pre-requisite for any project and ONGC till now do not confirm from which point gas would be supplied to the factory.
The state government has already allotted 30,000 hectare mountain land for the factory.
