AGARTALA, June 23 (TIWN): Rich tributes were paid to former president of Bharatiya Jana Singh (BJS), Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee by the State BJP leaders on his 64th Balidan Divas here on Friday.
The programme held at BJP Head Quarter in the presence of Assam Education, Health and Finance Minister Hemanta Biswa Sharma.
BJP State observer Sunil Deodhar, State Party President Biplab Deb and other leaders also remained present on that occasion.
Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee alternatively spelt as Syama Prasad Mookerjee was an Indian politician, barrister and academician, who served as Minister for Industry and Supply in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet.
After falling out with Nehru, Mukherjee quit the Indian National Congress and founded the right wing nationalist Bharatiya Jana Sangh (which would later evolve into BJP) in 1951.
