Agartala, Oct 6(TIWN): The main object of the department of the cooperation is to facilitate all round development of Cooperatives said Minister for Cooperatives Khagendra Jamatia at civil secretariat on Saturday,

   Speaking about the co-operative movement, the minister remarked that it started its journey in Tripura with the registration of a farmer co- operative society namely “ Swasti Samabaya Samity” at Kanchanpur sub – division, North Tripura District in 1949.

      About the set up of cooperatives, he said, “Two tier movements is followed – Apex (State) and Primary level. The dominant sector of cooperative movement in the State comprises agri credit, consumer marketing etc and these can be broadly categorized according to their activities” 

      Highlighting the achievement Mr. Jamatia stated that for achieving the over all development of the cooperatives including the members, the department of cooperation has been raised the number of cooperatives circles from 36 to 54.

      “ For providing better administrative service to the people residing in the TTAADC area, administrative control of 18 number of LAMPS were transferred to TTAADC under un- divided North Tripura District and Dhalai District with all assets” the minister said.
