AGARTALA, July 20 (TIWN): Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya, incumbent Governor of Nagaland, would take additional charge as new governor of Tripura on Monday, official sources said. Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Deepak Gupta would administer his oath taking ceremony at5 PM on the day.
The octagenerian former secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was yesterday sworn in the gubernatorial position of Nagaland. He arrived at Agartala on Sunday ahead of his swearing-in ceremony scheduled on Monday.
Jawans of the 1st and 10th battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) offered Guard of Honour to the next Governor at Raj Bhawan in Agartala today. Members of the state cabinet, Vice Chancellor of the Tripura Central University Professor AK Ghosh, Chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women (TCW) Purnima Roy, Chief Secretary Dr. SK Panda and other officials attended the guard of honour.
Acharya is reported to have served in the post of BJP national secretary from 1995 to 2000 when current Prime Minister Narendra Modi served as the BJP national general secretary.
