AGARTALA, July 19 (TIWN): Padmanabha B Acharya would assume office as Governor of Tripura throughout a simple ceremony at Raj Bhavan in Agartala here on July 21, according to official sources.
Chief Justice of High Court of Tripura Deepak Gupta would administer the oath of office and secrecy to the Governor. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his cabinet colleagues are expected to remain present in the oath taking ceremony.
Sources said, Achariya is scheduled to arrive here tomorrow. He would be accorded a warm welcome by offering guard of honour at Governor House here tomorrow
Earlier, Acharya took the charge as Governor of Nagaland on July 19. Acharya served as the BJP national secretary during 1995-2000 when Narendra Modi was the BJP national general secretary. Acharya was then the in-charge of party affairs in northeast states.
Meghalaya Governor K K Paul had assumed the additional charge of Nagaland on July 2 while Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman was transferred to Nagaland. But, Purushothaman resigned on July 11.
He joined the RSS at an early age. After his graduation, Acharya moved to Mumbai where he was engaged in business and was also the senate member of Mumbai University for 30 years.
He has also served as national president of ABVP. President Pranab Mukherjee appointed Acharya as Nagaland governor with the additional charge of Tripura on July 14.
