KAMALPUR, April 16 (TIWN): The martyrdom of Soumendra Sutradhar demanding food remembered with due homage on the eve of 50th anniversary of martyrdom. Lions Club Agartala and Harachandra Class XII alumni jointly arranged for today's program. The program was inaugurated by Pabitra Kar, the Deputy Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly. On that ocassion, LCA President Dr. Rajat Chakraborty, Dr. Sunil Dhar, LCA Secretary Abhijit Deb, MLA Anjan Das remained present.
It might be mentioned that, on 17th April, 1968 students stirred the road demanding rice and kerosene. As the police found it difficult to control the rage, the then SDO Gobinda Choudhury ordered the cops to open fire on the agitating students. Then Soumendra Sutradhar died in that firing. This year reached its mark of 50 years. Every year leftist students' union SFI used to observe the day.
