AGARTALA, April 15 (TIWN): People all across are observed busy in celebrating the Bengali New Year with full enthusiasm.
With celebration on full swing, people all across the state are observed busy in decorating their houses and visiting their relative’s houses to take blessing of the elders.
It is to be mentioned here that The Bengali New Year is known as Pohela Boishakh, the Tamil New Year is Puthandu, the Malayalam New Year as Vishu and the Assamese New Year is Bohag Bihu.
On this day, people wear new cloths and visit the temple to take blessings on the first day of the year.
However, they also exchange gifts among the family members, friends and the close one.
Bengalis of all religious persuasions celebrate this secular holiday with music, song and, of course, plenty of good food.
Marked with celebrations throughout the week, the Basanti Puja fervour will be at its peak on Poila Boishakh, which is the first day of Boishakh, the first month of the Bengali calendar.
Bengalis celebrate Pohela Boishakh by greeting ‘Shubho Noboborsho’. In Bengali, ‘Poila’ means first and ‘Boishakh’ is the first and foremost month of the Bengali calendar.
