Agartala, July 13 (TIWN): Campaign for the coming three-tier panchayat election concluded by 4 PM on Sunday. The State Election Commission instructed all District Election Officers (DEO) to set up ‘naka’ and check-posts on all district boundaries; ‘nakas’ were set up on district-ADC boundaries as well, State Election Commissioner Yatendra Kumar said here today.
Asked about reports of violence in the last hours of poll campaigning, Kumar said that Debashish Deb, an election agent of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) complained about intimidation from a political party in Sarojinji Nagar tea estate, Rangong tea estate, Dhalaicherra tea estate, Murticherra tea estate and few other areas of Unakoti district.
The concerned DEO was asked to investigate into the issue and deploy central forces from the six BSF platoons stationed at Kailashahar and Kumarghat.
“We have issued strict instruction that any voter brought from outside any concerned panchayat area should be sent back once the poll campaign period is over. The restriction will be considered in vogure from this evening itself”, State Election Commissioner Kumar said.
He added that the SEC had written to the state Home Department to impose seal on the Indo-Bangla international border from this evening. “We want to ensure zero infiltration or any scope of disruption of law and order”, Kumar stated.
Asked about details of election duty voters’ poll process which was held from July 11-July 12, the SEC chief said that a total of 10,322 voters cast votes in the EDV poll process. 6,593 among them were civilian poll personnel engaged for polling station duty; 3,494 police and TSR jawans cast votes alongwith 158 drivers and cleaners and 77 other poll personnel appointed from the offices of SDM and BDOs across the state. Ninety percent of all poll personnel and security personnel, who applied for EDV voting through Form 16 of the state election commission guidelines, successfully cast their votes, Kumar informed.
