Agartala, July 12 (TIWN):A speeding car landed inside an ATM centre here during the wee hours on Saturday.
The car was still on when police arrived to the spot and brought it out of the SBI ATM at circuit house just next to the Assam Rifles brigadier’s quarters.
Though no one was injured in the incident but police could not arrest anyone as the driver had fled from the spot immediately after the incident.
The front side of the car had been badly damaged and the ATM was in bad shape with pieces of broken glass and false-wall and ceiling. The machine had also been hit by the car.
Police suspect that the driver was intoxicated and there were few more along with him in the vehicle and which is reveled from the fact of recovery of liquor and cold drink bottles along with few packets of chips inside the ill-fated Maruti car TR-01-AN-0384.
“I suspect that the driver was intoxicated and so he landed inside the ATM. The incident occurred around 1.15 AM. It is a State Bank ATM and owner of the building is Aruti Debnath who rated the space for the ATM. The vehicle is a Maruti Alto car,” said Ratan Chakrabort, investigating police officer.
Police also found a cell phone, driving license, registration papers and photos inside the car which will help in locating the owner of the vehicle.
Recently, a group of burglars here had tried to break open an ATM to takeout cash from it.
Police is still in hunt of the burglars but could not be identified as they were wearing full mask helmet to cover their face.
