BELONIA / AGARTALA, April 2 (TIWN): Work at bank branches across Belonia/Santirbazar/Sabroom Sub Division were hampered during the day due to a link failure at BSNL's end. The condition of Agartala and other subdivisions are also the same.
BSNL provides connectivity to all the banks in the region. The banks lost the day due to the snag, which not only hampered transfer of funds in some cases but quite a few ATMs were also not working.
SDO(T) BSNL South Tripura told TIWN that there was a problem in different parts on the way to Udaipur Sabroom Roadway which led to the link failure. The BSNL team tried to resolve the crisis at the earliest to avoid inconvenience to the general public," he said.
Sources in the banks said this was the first time that such a major breakdown had happened. As banking has become more technology-oriented these days, the link failure brought work to a standstill at many branches. Most of the work had to be finished manually, said a source in one of the PSU banks.
Some of the bigger banks, like State Bank of India (SBI), UBI which don’t have an alternative support could manage a part of the work, said a source here.
Banks across the Sabroom/Belonia/Santirbazar Sub Division are connected through BSNL. Due to this work not only at public sector banks but also private banks faced hassles. BSNL staffs also tried their best to restore SNA-KTL OFC ring of Sabroom due to NH44 work.
All office works were also hampered due to BSNL network problem.
